Scope: Workshops are structured to be interactive
attending with your tuned instrument is encouraged.


Friday, March 14

5:00 PM to 6:00 PM Dobro
with Wally Hughes and Ethan Hughes of Fretloose.

6:00 PM to 7:00 PM Fiddle Tunes for Guitar and Mandolin
Scott Gantt, and Kevin Justice of New Raccoon Creek along with John Pappas will perform popular fiddle tunes and share "breaks" with audience members. "Breaks" are the song's melody solos that are played by an individual while the other jam members lend accompaniment by lightly strumming in the background. Jam etiquette will also be discussed and demonstrated.

7:00 PM to 9:00 PM Sound Systems
Brian Pierce of Aimless Pursuit will give a seminar showing what the sound technician needs to do for a successful board mix, and what the performers need to do in order to "work the microphones" well.

9:00 PM for the remainder of the evening. Open Mike
Pickers are encouraged to come and experiment with the sound equipment, get a little stage experience, and "work" their mikes. Open Mike will be especially useful for those who attended the Sound Systems workshop ... not to mention a lot of fun ... eh ?


Saturday, March 15


11:00 AM to Noon Banjo
With Ed Lick of Blue Roots and Tim Kruzic of Blue Daze.

Noon to 2:00 PM Music Theory
with Sharon Charles, of Charles Piano Studio, will explain basic essential music theory, and how the chromatic music scale relates directly to all instruments. Using the keyboard, Sharon teaches the Circle of Fifths and how intervals are applied to all string instruments in a way that can be easily understood. Bring along your program book which contains visuals of the Circle of Fifths, the keyboard, and the guitar fingerboard.

2:00 PM to 3:00 PM Vocals and Harmony
with The Tuesday Mountain Boys. Don Breeze and the "Boys" will instruct on how they attain their three part vocal harmonies that are so essential in making the unique "bluegrass singing" what it is.

3:00 PM to 4:00 PM Fiddle
with Mike Hartnet of Blue Daze and Kerry Craig.

4:00 PM to 5:00 PM Guitar Flatpicking and Rhythm Techniques
with Chris Stifel of Blue Daze and Dave Lucas of Blue Roots.

5:00 PM to 6:00 PM Arrangement
with Aimless Pursuit. The band will discuss and demonstrate their arrangements for classic bluegrass songs.

6:00 - for the remainder of the evening. Open Mike


Sunday, March 16


11:00 AM to Noon Upright Bass
with Matt Koch of The Blue Ridge Mountain Boys.

2:00 PM to 3:00 PM Yodel
with Sandi Marola of Texas Rose. Bring your voices ... (and a bottle of water wouldn't be a bad idea either).

3:00 PM to 4:00 PM Mandolin
with Jeff Kidd of Hartford Express, and Scott Eager of The Blue Ridge Mountain Boys.
