Specialized Workshops


Information Sharing for Festival Promoters – with Jodi Fishbein of OATS Bluegrass Festival.
In a discussion atmosphere, Jodie’s objective is to bring together festival promoters,
people interested in being involved in a festival, and anyone with
past festival experience so we can share experiences and learn from each other on how
to produce a successful bluegrass festival. Agenda: Introductions
What worked and what didn’t work at your festival, Advertising, Vendors – what they contribute to a festival, Grants, Items that we would like to discuss at another time.
Please pre-register with the Workshop Coordinator.


Music Theory - with Sharon Charles, of Charles Piano Studio
will explain basic essential music theory
and how the chromatic music scale relates directly to all instruments.
Using the keyboard, Sharon teaches the Circle of Fifths and how intervals are applied to all string instruments in a way that can be easily understood.

Fiddle - with Kerry Craig
Kerry will cover a range of topics and will be geared to accommodate participant’s questions and needs for all levels. Topics will include: how fiddle songs are constructed, understanding typical patterns that make learning songs easier, player back-up, techniques and theory as they apply to fiddle tunes.

Instrument Clinic – with Dana Sutcliffe, Master Luthier
of Dana Sound Research.

Dana will have post cards available for attendees to write down a question regarding
repairs, set ups, strings, woods, frets, tools, electronics and accessories related to instruments.
He will have examples of tools and building materials related to the topics of discussions.




Injury Prevention for Musicians – with Kathy de Plaza N.D.
Kathy is a licensed massage therapist and naturopath specializing in muscular injury rehabilitation
and deep tissue body work. She is a graduate of the Pennsylvania School of Muscle Therapy
and has taken a post graduate course in Gross Anatomy at John Hopkins.
Her workshop will focus on the ability to maintain muscle health
and flexibility while playing your instrument until you drop!
… covering such topics as the prevention of:...
tendonitis, tenosynovitis, focal dystonia, muscle strain,
overuse syndrome, carpal tunnel syndrome,
cubital tunnel syndrome, thoracic outlet syndrome, sciatica,
De Quervian's syndrome,rotator cuff injuries,
lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow) and medial epicondylitis (golfer's elbow).
There will be a good bit of hands on work during the workshop.
She has been playing flatpick bluegrass guitar for five years
and has a good understanding of musician injuries.

Scope: Workshops are structured to be interactive
attending with your tuned instrument is encouraged.
